Platform Requests
• Are you interested in SpaceTime for another platform not listed on our Try/Buy page? Let us know! Please post with your device type plus any other additional comments on why you would like to see SpaceTime on your mobile device. This will help decide which additional platforms to port SpaceTime too.

Thank you!
• Chris,

have you considered creating a version of spacetime that runs on linux? at least here in germany a lot of mathematics students at university use linux on their computers...

Regards Thomas
• Yes, this would be very easy. SpaceTime runs completely in OpenGL so it's very easy to port to other desktop platforms. Thanks for letting me know about your interest in SpaceTime for Linux. If anyone else is interested in a Linux port please post!
• I second this, my primary operating system is Linux... I use the pocketpc version now and I would love to be able to use it in both places.
• I vote for a linux port :) I currently use Windows Vista and Ubuntu 7.10.
• Symbian OS UIQ3 port would be great.
ALL UIQ3 devices (there are about 7 of them for now, but the number will grow rapidly this year) have OpenGLES Graphics Chip with 16MB video memory and 320x240 screen + ~200MHz processor and 64-128 MB RAM
Moreover, Symbian is a *nix-, POSIX-compatible- (recently, with the help of P.I.P.S, which is P.I.P.S is Posix for Symbian) system, so port should really be a piece of cake.
And if u need help, UIQ3-community is really nice to everyone, you could even contact me personally.
• I am also using Linux (Suse Linux) as my primary system (beside Windows Vista) and if you could port Spacetime to Linux as well, it would be great!
• How about Nokia, I mean Symbian S60? It's the most popular smartphone OS. So many users(e.g. students, teachers, engineers) will be glad to have this application. Platform has the same advantages with Symbian OS UIQ3, but new devices (E90,N82,N93,N95,N96) have 3D-accelerator. Just look at the results here http://www.jbenchmark.com/result.jsp?benchmark=3d
Aren't they smart?
• Linux would be awesome!
• Linux would be great

I run a Asus EEEPC as a "lab notebook" and would LOVE to have Spacetime available on this

Furthermore the German lab (where I was working) seem to favor Linux as no Windows was available for "guest scientists".
• If Linux support is forthcoming, would it be difficult to create a FreeBSD build?
• How similar is FreeBSD to Linux?
• Very similar, it would likely just be a matter of building it on that platform to provide a binary file with very little (if any) porting required.
• Can support for the Samsung Instinct be added?

Unless things have changed, that hasn't been my experience. No packages that haven't especially been ported for them will build.

Obviously, the really portable languages have no problem (perl, python, ruby, java, bash) but c with dependencies would likely be a headache.

For a C programmer, it's really not that bad... especially if the dependencies are common. I dare you to find one common library that has not been ported to FreeBSD. It seems like ST's dependencies would be fairly simple and I would imagine the application is pretty self-contained.
• you may be right, but I think the whole draw of this system (speaking only for myself) is its availability for the pocket pc. lash me to a desktop, and it will be Linux or BSD and there I've got lots of options, Maxima probably will be the one I'll focus on. Space Time would be a tough sell to either the Linux or BSD communities as there are so many free options as far as CAS goes. For a Q&D peek at a graph, I use graphmonkey. I will (did) pay to have this software on a device I can put in my pocket (IPAQ 210). I would not pay to put it on my Debian box.

I won't use Windows Mobile for any longer than I have to... Linux phones are not very far away and I would love to have this application for when they get here. If not then there will be no platform where I could use SpaceTime, which would be depressing as it is an invaluable tool on my Phone. I like ST because it is straightforward, simple, and lightweight and for really quick things I prefer it to firing up Maple.
• The iPhone version is right around the corner and I'm keeping an eye on the new Android platform which is Linux based. :)

I just turned a coworker onto the iPhone version, and his reaction at first use was :o (awe and amazement). I just got a G1 two days ago and my comment to him was that I hoped that you guys would develop an Android version as well. I really hope you do because I'll be the first customer in line.
• I'm an engineering student and I definitely want a Linux build, I use OpenSUSE at school and Ubuntu at home. Right now I just keep it on my PocketPC, I don't really use Windows very much except for the occasional video game on the weekend.
• I also believe that Symbian OS UIQ3 support would be great, too.
For example all new and very popular to Europe Sony Ericsson Smartphones are UIQ3... :D

Sorry but UIQ has cancelled its further development. It was a good operating system but it is history now :(
• Ok, how bout the Blackberry OS. Namely for use on the new storm, but compatible with all the others. Thx
• Chris, in the area where I live we don't have AT&T cell phone service but I anticipate it will happen so my question is this. Do you know if I can buy an iphone and put spacetime on it to simply use as a handheld calculator without any cell phone connection? Also, where on this site do I go for pricing for any optional math capabilities? Thanks.
• Yes, SpaceTime doesn't require an internet connection so can use it on iPhone where you don't have cell reception or WiFi. Here is the purchase link on iTunes.

For all other platforms use this link on our website.

• It would be very nice to see S60 5th edition (Symbian) support. There are a few very interesting devices out now/coming soon (like the Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic, Nokia N97, and Samsung Omnia HD). Considering that Symbian is the leading OS for smart mobiles, it's pretty likely that we will see a lot of touch-enabled symbian devices going forward.
• I would like to see SpaceTime supported on a Blackberry, in particular on Blackberry Bold.
• Android please!
• How about a version for Palm Pre Web OS? :D
• how about a maemo 4 version? (n810 linux version)
• I will be one of the first person if you release a S60v5 version (Symbian touch phones), especially n97
• hello, i was wondering if i could use SpaceTime on a Samsung S5230 cellphone, i'm about to buy one but i really want to know if SpaceTime will work fine and with all of its functions without any trouble. Thanks by the way, SpaceTime is the best software ever created. :D
• No - Symbian is not supported. Definitely something I would like to see though!
• Android Please!!!!! :(
• I would like to see an Android port for SpaceTime. So many Android hardware options are being offered.
• Ditto on Android... I've made the switch and now no longer use a platform supported by Spacetime.
• I just got the email about Version 4 being available, and the upgrade pricing was great.

I went to the web site to buy the upgrade and saw that you no longer support the Palm OS!
How disappointing.....

Specifically I use a Palm TX running PalmOS Garnet 5.4.9

Any chance of getting a compatible version?
• Sorry for your disappointment! The Palm OS version has been permanently discontinued. The platform is almost completely dead and we were no longer receiving any sales for the palm version.
• I use Ubuntu 9.10 and would really like to see SpaceTime on Linux.
• Will SpaceTime Mathematics port SpaceTime to the Palm Pre, now that the Palm Pre is supporting 3d graphics. I'd buy this product on Palm Pre in a heartbeat. Thanks in advance.
• From my understanding Palm Pre's OS is all Java based so it wouldn't be possible.
• How about a version for the Blackberry Storm? That would be awesome! I've been a long time user of the windows mobile version, but I've upgraded to a storm and no longer carry the pda around.
• I too need this for my BB
• What about Nokia maemo/N900?

In general, I would say that a number of people, e.g. myself, now having a winmobile6 device, and being more or less happy, will soon face the necessity to migrate to either (1) Android, (2) maemo/whatever/linux based, (3) The new phone OS by MS.

Since (3) lacks compatibility and has a number of wonderful improvements in the "it is a phone and not computer" style, I do not think this is going to be the preferred choice even for previous winmobile users.
iPhone still looks to be too closed & limited platform. Android of course is somewhat scary due to its Java orientation (hence I understand limited "generic C" potential and potential performance issues)...

I guess I will use SpaceTime as a representative example of a complex enough application to see :)

And you gentlemen should really propose something for your mobile version except the iPhone, especially now that you've dropped winmobile.

Thanks.
• As I said in another thread, I'm truely sad to see end of Windows Mobile support. The WM platform is not dead yet, it still has an important markentshare (twice the marketshare of Andriod in US, much bigger in Europe) and new phones are still being made. Look at the great sale of HD2 in Europe and in US. I believe there are still other avenues to at least try to market SpaceTime on WM (e.g. Microsoft's new MarketPlace for Mobile).

Windows Phone 7 will be very different but I don't think porting SpaceTime to that platform would be impossible. On the desktop, it is possible to compile a lot of older C/C++ code in .NET using C++/CLR. I don't know how WP7 would be but it seems it is basically .NET 4.0 + XAML. If C++/CLR path works, porting SpaceTime would be only a matter of rewriting the interface in XAML which should be a much easier task than porting it to Java or other platforms.

So I for one would love to seen continued support for WM and plans for a new version on WP7.
• I would also like to see Space Time 4.0 for Ubuntu. I've tried running it through "wine" but the fonts don't show up.
• Linux port please!
Mathstudio is way cleaner and easier than software like scilab or maxima, both great apps but Mathstudio is very nice to use.
Maybe a set of fonts for wine? I've had the same font problem, but I will continue to investigate and post if I find a solution.
Again, Linux PLEASE (or at least a set of compatible fonts)
• What about Windows Phone 7? Do you have any plans of porting Mathstudio on this platform? I think it would be great!
• The new version of MathStudio when released for Windows should work fine on Wine since it no longer relies on external fonts.

Windows Phone 7 doesn't allow for natively built apps so MathStudio wouldn't be possible on that platform.
• +1 for MathStudio on Linux. It works well via Wine (thanks!), but native programs works better and looks nicer.
