possible keyboard bugs in MS for Windows
  • Dear MS team,

i realized a few keyboard-related odd behaviours in MS 5.3.2

    1) Home and End key have no effect i.e. one doesn't jump to the beginning or end of a line any more. In Spacetime 4.051 these keys behave as expected...

    2) It is not possible to enter square bracktets [ ] via "[" and "]" key (ST already had that problem)

At least the second one seems to be caused by the fact that I don't have a "German german" but a "Swiss german" keyboard layout. You can have a look at the difference between german German and Swiss german layout in the following german wikipedia article ("German" = "Deutschland und Österreich", "Swiss" = "Schweiz")

    Regards Thomas
  • Hi,

The issue 2 it's something, it happens with non-english keyboard. I couldn't say nothing about 1 because I don't use Windows.

    Francisco.
  • Thanks for your answer.

What I could figure out meanwhile is that if I don't press the corresponding key combination on the Swiss german keyboard but the combination that I would have to press on a German german keyboard, they work fine (AltGr + 8 leads to "[", etc.). So at least there's a workaround even though I have to "manually" remember which key leads to which symbol ;-)

Something else I just discovered: When choosing Help -> Support Forums or generally some entry that leads into a site on the internet and my standard browser Chrome is NOT open, it doesn't open any more at all and I have to kill the chrome process in the task manager. If Chrome is already open it works fine.

As it is no problem accessing web pages (with Chrome not open so far) from menu items of other programs (e.g. Texniccenter, R) this might not be just a chrome but also a MS issue...

    Regrads Thomas
